Located along the state line between Wisconsin and Illinois, the city of Beloit, WI is close to some of the most important urban areas in the region, as well as a plethora of nature reserves and state parks where visitors of all ages can enjoy some time away from the routine. 1. Chicago
With a population of almost ten million in its metropolitan area, the city of Chicago is one of the largest metropolises in the United States and an important economic and cultural hub in the Midwest. Located a little under 100 miles southeast of downtown Beloit, Chicago can be reached in about an hour and 40 minutes by car along route I-90, making it the perfect day trip destination for those who like vibrant and culturally diverse cities.
Once you make your way to the downtown Chicago area, a good place to begin exploring is the Chicago Loop neighborhood, where you can find interesting attractions, including The Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, Buckingham Fountain, and Willis Tower. Other interesting spots you should not miss while in the city include the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry, Navy Pier, and the Chicago Riverwalk.
2. Milwaukee
Located a little under 80 miles northeast of downtown Beloit, the city of Milwaukee is the most populous urban area in the state of Wisconsin and another excellent day trip destination for all types of visitors. A thriving economic and cultural hub in the Midwest, Milwaukee features an endless array of historic attractions, museums, good restaurants, cafés, and famous landmarks that attract tourists from all over the country.
Getting from the city of Beloit to downtown Milwaukee takes about an hour and 10 minutes by car, driving northeast along route I-43. Once you are in the city center, a good place to start exploring is the East Town neighborhood, where you can find important attractions such as the Milwaukee Art Museum, Veterans Park, Cathedral Square Park, and the Milwaukee Riverwalk. Other famous landmarks in the city include McKinley Beach, the historic Mitchell Building, and the Milwaukee City Hall.
3. Big Foot Beach State Park
If you are looking for quiet nature reserves to enjoy some time away from the urban bustle and take a break from the routine, Big Foot Beach State Park is the place to be. Located about 35 miles east of downtown Beloit, this state park covers an area of about 275 acres and was established in 1949. Popular activities include fishing, swimming, camping, and hiking. Getting here takes about 50 minutes by car, driving along route WI-67.
