Broken Water Pump

Your GMC’s engine operates most effectively at temperatures between 185 F and 220 F. Combustion and the heat from hundreds of fast-moving parts can increase this temperature, which can lead to problems. If your engine gets too hot, it can suffer severe, even critical damage. Liquid coolant is pumped through the engine to remove the heat and control the engine temperature.

The water pump is responsible for pushing coolant through your engine. If this pump is damaged, the coolant won’t circulate, and your engine temperature will rapidly rise. The first sign you’ll usually have of this problem is a steady increase in your temperature gauge. We advise calling us ASAP so our technicians can investigate. If the pump has failed, we can easily replace it to fix this problem.

Worn Ignition Coil

For combustion to work, the fuel and air mixture in each cylinder must be compressed and then ignited. Igniting the fuel-air mixture is the responsibility of the spark plug connected to each cylinder. A spark plug only provides 12 volts of power, which is insufficient to ignite the mixture. This is where the ignition coil comes in.

An ignition coil connects to each spark plug and generates 30,000 volts. This charge is more than sufficient to ignite the contents of a cylinder. Over time, ignition coils can become worn or damaged, and they won’t supply enough power. Without a working ignition coil, the cylinder will misfire. When this happens you’ll feel your engine lurch. We’ll test each of the coils and replace any damaged ones.

Damaged Starter Motor

When you push the start button on the dash, the battery sends an electrical charge to the starter motor. The starter motor activates and cranks your engine. When the engine cranks, this sets the combustion process in motion. If your starter motor is worn or damaged, starting your engine will become difficult.

One of the most common causes of a starter motor problem is a damaged starter solenoid. The solenoid receives the charge from the battery and uses it to power the starter motor. A failed solenoid won’t pass the charge on, and your engine won’t start. We’ll examine the solenoid and replace it with a new one right away.
